Provident Living– January, February & March 2015

In early January I took the Kohls rewards that my inlaws handed me from the purchase of my husband’s shirts for Christmas and bought a new and desperately needed set of pots and pans.  Since I do a great deal of cooking I didn’t want ultra cheap pans so I was able to get a really nice set of Cuisinart pans by adding just a little money to the Kohls rewards.  An amazon gift card from Christmas purchased the hanging rack and hooks for easy storage in my tight squeeze kitchen.  The pots and pans came with a mail order card for a free set of a couple of cuisinart knives and a set of stainless nesting mixing bowls with lids also for free.  It was a great bargain for the money I put into them.

I bought a new rug for my living room to replace the threadbare one we’ve had for years using a little money we were given for Christmas.  The braided wool rug was purchased on the last day of the year on an excellent clearance sale.  It came with free shipping and a $50 rebate as well.

Our old dryer died and I put out an add for a used one… got one that works great for the price of the drive to pick it up.  We dropped off the old one at a recycling center.

I purchased a needed black dress for my daughter’s graduation and gave it to her for her birthday.  This dress normally sells for near $100 and I paid $13.

Running low on jam I got out some of my unused frozen strawberries and made more jam in the middle of February… Last June had gotten too busy with all the Trek sewing.

My husband and I went out on a date and sat down at a sub shop for dinner.  Being the last customers of the evening they asked us if we wanted any bread as we were clearing our table and getting ready to leave.  We said we’d love some and they asked us how much we’d like because they were just going to throw it all out.  When we told them we had 5 kids they gave us the entire box full.  Counting the loaves at home we found the box held one dozen!!!  These made amazing sandwiches and salad croutons for a week!  Thank you!

My daughter’s baptism had foods for afterward that I had prepared myself.

My daughter’s hair ribbon for her baptism was made from the bracelet that I made for her blessing day when she was a baby… I attached a metal barrette that I already had on hand to put this together.

As weather turned nicer again I began bringing the laundry outdoors for drying once again.
